5 SPECIAL PICNICS
Who says a picnic has to involve cold
cuts? Here are five fresher takes.
1
. Have a zero-prep picnic-order
pizza or takeout Chinese, grab a
blanket, and eat it in the backyard.
2
. After dinner, pack milk and lots of
different cookies and head to the
.com
park-instant dessert picnic.
3
. On a night the kids are away, set
up a picnic for two under the stars.
Surround the blanket with paper-
bag lanterns.
4
. Make a backyard picnic memo-
rable: Use your best dishes and
silverware instead of throwaway
plastics. It’s harder to break stuff
when eating on the grass, anyway.
5
. On a rainy evening, have a
family-room floor picnic while you
watch a movie.

Hit the Mall!
sometimes. Michael's offers crafts workshops where you pay
only for materials. Bookstore chains like Barnes & Noble offer
live music, author readings, and costumed-character visits. And Home
Depot holds free Kids Workshops on the first Saturday of the month. Malls
often have great indoor playgrounds, too (a godsend on super-hot days).
